The Lot is the gastronomic department par excellence! The department boasts a host of establishments, including 5 Michelin-starred restaurants. As well as Cahors wine, the region is famous for its many regional products, including ceps, prunes, melon and walnuts.
Duck is omnipresent on Lot menus. Duck confit and magret de canard (duck breast) are unmissable dishes. Not forgetting, of course, the famous foie gras (for connoisseurs only) and gizzard salad.
Other regional specialities include Cabécou, a small round goat’s cheese, melon and Quercy saffron, not forgetting the famous Pastis aux pommes, a pastry based on an extremely thin crust.
Don’t forget to visit one of the many “gourmet markets” (bring your own cutlery!) or night markets. These are not-to-be-missed local events based on the pleasures of the table and conviviality. Often with live music, these evenings are sure to be unforgettable moments of your holiday.
